How to update player software from a central location

1. To deploy a new software update you must download the latest update zip file from the downloads section of this support site.  The latest zip file is always listed at the top of the downloads page:

Right click on the link and select Save As ... to download the file to your local drive.

2. Launch the DC Media Network Manager application.

3. When an update is deployed to a player, the contents thereof are installed automatically by an application called dcupdate.exe. This application is installed by default with DC Media Player version 5.6 and should already be running on all your players. To verify that this is true, select a player in the Network Manager, right click and select Remote Task Manager:

If dcupdate.exe is not running, right click on the player, select Action... Execute... and enter the Executable File Path as shown below:

Repeat this step for any other players that are not running dcupdate.exe (you will only need to do this once, dcupdate inserts a startup entry in the registry to ensure that it runs at startup).

4. To deploy the update, select File...Transfer Files... Browse to the update file that you downloaded and the drag that file onto the players that you wish to update (you can drag the file onto a player group if you would like to update all the players in that group). Ensure that the destination path is set as follows:

The path must be c:\users\public\documents\dcmedia\updates (unless you are on Windows XP, in that case use c:\Program files\dcmedia\updates\)

5. Click Upload to distribute the update. When the file is received on each player, dcupdate will update the relevant software applications.

6. To confirm that the player software has been updated, right click on a player and select Poll Device for status. The player software version will be refreshed and shown in the Network Manager player Listing:
